[everything would be okay, even though I could not walk]

About a year ago, I experienced a sudden and unexpected injury that changed my life in an instant. It came after a summer filled with hope and growth—learning new recipes, exploring fashion, working on extreme fitness, visiting museum after museum, and looking forward to finishing graduate school and moving on from everything. I was feeling good about life for the first time in a long while.

Then, out of nowhere, I suddenly couldn’t walk.

I wasn’t in an accident. I wasn’t pushing myself too hard. I was simply enjoying life—and then this happened. The shock of it crushed me. I sank into a deeper depression than I had ever known. I faced this challenge almost entirely alone. The loneliness was overwhelming. I wanted to give up more than once during this season—the hardest season of my life.

But God was there, as He always has been.

Even when I couldn’t work, even when I couldn’t leave my apartment for weeks, God made sure I had what I needed. My rent was paid. I had food to eat. I received the healthcare that slowly got me back on my feet—literally. Though I’m still healing in many ways, including mentally, I know without a doubt that God is my provider and sustainer.

This experience taught me that God is truly in control.

After years of hustling to make ends meet, when I lost my mobility, He carried me. He kept me afloat when I could not keep myself afloat. Now, He is opening doors and creating new opportunities for me. At the same time, He is removing toxic influences from my life.

I’m learning to surrender to His plan.

I’m still on the road to full recovery, but I trust that as I regain my mobility and strength, I will continue to rely on Him completely—to provide, to lead, and to guide my steps.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:1-3

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
