...whether my life would ever get better.

I’ve struggled for a long time. I’ve picked myself up every time—by the grace of God—but it’s been exhausting. Every time I get up, I am knocked right back down–in every single area of my life for years. It’s like a real life Job experience that has lasted for my entire existence pretty much.

There are things I’ve gone through that I know I didn’t deserve. For a long time, I just accepted it, thinking maybe that was my portion. But lately, something has shifted—perhaps the Holy Spirit stirred something in me—and I can no longer quietly endure the weight of mistreatment or pretend that the pain didn’t leave scars.

I’ve come to realize more clearly how cruelly I’ve been treated at times—for no justifiable reason. And now? I’m tired of chasing the carrot on a stick. I’m tired of surviving off bread crumbs. I want more. I believe I deserve more. Even if I never receive it in this life.

But even still, my hope remains in God.

His Word reminds me of His promises—

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

He says He won’t give me a snake when I ask for bread—

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? …how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!” — Matthew 7:9–11

And He says He will always be with me—

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Jesus died for me. That means I was worth dying for. That means I matter. Even when the world tries to convince me otherwise.

I don’t know what the rest of my life will look like. Maybe it won’t ever get easier. But even if nothing ever changes… I still believe in God. I still hope in Him. I cling to the promise of a place in His Kingdom when all is said and done.

And that hope? I’ll never let go of it.

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” — Psalm 27:13–14
