What can I say? It’s just so warm and cozy, and it hides my small frame from lingering eyes when I’m out and about.
I’ve become much more modest than I used to be a few years back. My style is similar, but now there’s much more material involved—no joke. I never walked around half-naked, but I did wear clothing that I would nowadays consider too revealing.
My desire for modesty isn’t because I feel insecure or because my body looks any different. In fact, I believe I look better now than I did ten years ago! The reason I choose modesty today is different: I do it for my own protection and, most importantly, to honor God. But it isn’t perfected…yet.
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
I won’t say that I’m the most modest woman in the world right now, but I’m working on it. I still wear leggings, pants, and sometimes I don’t cover my head, but I haven’t given up on changing that permanently. I know the time is coming when I will. God has set a standard for what we should and should not wear. Women are not to wear the garments of men, and men are not to wear women’s clothing:
“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.” –Deuteronomy 22:5
We are not to be flashy or extravagant in our dress:
“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.” –1 Timothy 2:9
Even wearing human hair (which is fashion), commonly sold as extensions and wigs, could carry spiritual implications many are unaware of (such as curses). I don’t write this to make anyone upset. And I understand if this might sound a bit bizarre, but it is on my heart to inform you because I truly care. When I wore human hair, I was indeed wearing the curses of others right on top of my head. When I discovered this, I never wore human hair ever again.
I understand also that some people wear them because of medical reasons (cancer, hair loss, alopecia, balding). But I suggest synthetic hair over human for the reasons I’ve stated above. Please be very careful out there, everyone. No fashionable look is worth getting cursed with misfortune.
For a long time, clothing was a shield for me. I dressed for fun and made it artistic. But I also dressed to blend in, to avoid judgment, to meet the world’s standards of beauty. Society praised it, so I believed I was doing well in that department. Maybe you can relate. Have you ever worn something just to fit in? Have you ever felt “naked” without a particular fashion item? I know I did.
But God has been showing me my real, natural beauty, even the white hairs sprouting in my bangs.
“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” — Psalm 139:14
I embrace how He designed me because He is the Creator. Who am I to argue with Him?
It is actually freeing to live modestly, just as I naturally am. One day soon, I will start covering my head full-time when I leave the house—not just as a personal choice but as an honor to God. I will also stop wearing pants, even if they feel comfortable, because my comfort should not come before my obedience to Him.
I know some may think I’m overanalyzing things, but Scripture speaks for itself. Modesty is a spiritual armor. It shields you from unwanted attention. It allows you to focus on more important matters. It is an outward expression of an inward commitment to God.
So, I ask you: What clothing makes you feel comfortable and cozy at home? And deeper still, do you find your comfort in God’s standards or the world’s? It’s a question worth pondering as we seek to align our lives with His will.

Many are not aware how important it is to take care of yourself and to love yourself as God loves you.
For me, I am blessed and I continue to thank God for allow the spirit within me to teach me who I AM. Amen!
Amen! Yes, each day we grow in our relationship with God, and in our relationship with ourselves. True self love is so important, and I’m learning to practice it later on in life. But as the saying goes, better late than never. And this Ive never thought myself to be more beautiful/lovely than the version of me I exhibit today. God bless you abundantly. Shalom. ❤️
