...an Irish Setter.
I’ve wanted an Irish Setter since I was a very young child. At the time, my uncle had a dog named Coco. She gave birth to puppies with a dog of mixed breed. All of her puppies came out black like their father—all except for one. He was considered the runt, but to me, he was the biggest, plumpest pup of the litter!
I really wanted him. But because of where I lived and how poor we were, I wasn’t able to take him home. I remember holding on to him for a long time, trying to work out in my little brain how I could keep him. But it didn’t happen. Someone else in the family took him home and raised him, and that was that.
As you can see, I never forgot that little pup. Since then, I’ve vowed to get an Irish Setter in my adult years. I have yet to do it, but I haven’t given up. One day, I will accomplish it. I’ve already had a name picked out since childhood!
I watched a sermon on manifesting things through prayer and faith, and I believe it to be true—if what you are asking for is in God’s will. The Bible tells us in Matthew 7:7:
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
This doesn’t mean we always receive exactly what we ask for, but when we align our desires with God’s plan, He provides what is truly best for us.
So, I’m praying that it is in His will for me to have a dog of my own one day. Not just for companionship, but because I know that God cares about the details of our lives. Psalm 37:4 says:
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
When we seek Him first, He shapes our hearts to desire the things that will bless us in the right way.
I’m excited (to this day) to see what He will do—not just with a furry companion, but in my life altogether. I know God has my best interests in mind. Even if my plans shift or change, I trust in His timing. As Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
No matter what happens, I know that everything will work together for good, because Romans 8:28 assures us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
So, whether it’s an Irish Setter or something else God has in store, I will wait with patience and faith. He knows the desires of my heart, and I trust that He will provide exactly what I need, when I need it.
So, what about you? What animal would you like to have as a pet?
