...Nothing.
I’ve already lived it, and it was perfect the way that it was. I look forward to what is to come, to the moments I will experience in the present season of my life.
I used to look back a lot. Sometimes, I would even hold on to regret; thinking of what I should have done instead for a “better” outcome. But I know that I’ve tried my very best in life (going above and beyond for long periods of time), and that is what really matters most. I’ve learned how pointless it is to do such things like desiring what’s done and over with. I can’t turn back the hands of time and relive it (only God can do that), so what’s the point?
What does it mean to live in the past? Better yet: how can you grow if you don’t move forward? I understand, that can be difficult when you don’t want to, or never had to before (or if you’re attached). I don’t think reminiscing is a bad thing. It’s just…to relive something…it’s utterly impossible. Life always moves forward–and you must keep going onward–and so that’s what I do, one step at a time. I’d like to believe that the best moments are the present ones. To simply exist another day is a gift from God. Looking back only helps me to appreciate where I am today–because of Him. He has carried me through every season–especially the storm ones when I thought I wouldn’t make it–and I trust that He will continue to lead me into what is ahead. I also look forward to sharing those times with Him; my best friend forever and ever. I love Him so much, no words can ever describe how much!
God warns us about dwelling in the past. In Genesis 19:26, Lot’s wife looked back at the city God was destroying, and she turned into a pillar of salt! Her longing for what was behind cost her everything. This reminds me that when God calls me forward, I must trust Him and go without hesitation. He is commanding me, because it will protect and bless me!
Philippians 3:13-14 says:
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
My focus is on what’s ahead. I trust that God has greater things in store, and I embrace the present moment with gratitude. Isaiah 43:18-19 encourages this mindset:
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
God’s promises are real for those who love and follow His words! He is always working, always moving and always leading His children into something new. I don’t need to relive the past when He is making a way for me right now.
What about you? Are you here, in present day, with me?
I sure hope so, because I don’t want you to miss out on what God has for you–right now!
I pray many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many blessings over you!
