...politics.

It’s all anyone talks about these days, even internationally. And I don’t just mean the politics of the United States; people everywhere are caught up in the political affairs of the world. Wars are active all around the globe. People–children–are losing their lives! But the strangest part of all this to me is: the division.

I’ve seen families break apart and friendships dissolve over elections, policies and opinions about world leaders and who they support. The intensity of it all baffles me. I don’t claim to understand it deeply enough to judge, but I have found myself caught in the middle of these conflicts with people I love; over decisions made by a president, king, prime minister, or some other political personality.

But for me? I’d rather keep my family and friends over any fight or argument. Nothing is worth losing people you care about or love. And you can’t replace them either in finding new people. So I forget the so-called “leaders of the world” and the so-called “elite”.

There is only one truly elite, and that is:

God.

He is my President. He is my King.

These people who temporarily sit in positions of power are just that: temporary. Quite, in fact. They are human, just like us.

“For there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” -Romans 13:1

No one is better than another based on their status, wealth, nationality or race. What truly matters is the heart: how we treat others, how we truly treat (and feel about) ourselves, and ultimately–how we treat God.

This life is much like that childhood song many of us used to sing. You probably know it: Row, Row, Row Your Boat, gently down the stream.

Life really is but a dream. It is temporary, fleeting, a test of sorts.

“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” -James 4:14

Time moves so fast, and sometimes I wish we could all see that before we let small, temporary matters divide us. But I also know that I have to practice what I preach. I have to allow others their choices, their beliefs and their free will, even when I don’t agree with it. That’s part of how you love someone: you tell them and help they all you can, but if they chose to go another way, you must let them. God even commands it. He’s The One who has given us free will and if He has granted us that, who am we to try and take it away from others?

Don’t get me wrong, a criminal needs to be reprimanded. But even then, we live in a world filled with free will. This is why so much bad happens in the world and we can’t contain it. We can’t stop all the “bad guys” out there. It’s just a part of life right now, until The Hero returns to set things right for good.

As for me, the Creator of the universe is my one and only leader. He will remain in that position for ever and ever. And I pray that those I love won’t abandon me over trivial, fleeting matters. Instead, I pray we can learn to forgive one another, to grow together, to understand each other beyond the shallow arguments of politics.

God really wants us to get along.

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” -Romans 12:18

And I want that too. I pray we don’t let politics and earthly rulers break us apart. Our true citizenship is not in any nation–but in Heaven.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” -Philippians 3:20

That is where our focus should be. But if it isn’t for you, then I respect your choice. Though I pray you will reconsider.

So while the world fights over politics, I will put my trust in God. Because in the end, only His rule is eternal.

Thanks for stopping by today.

I pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many many many many pray many many many many many many many blessings over you,
