...sadly, about three hours.
That really put things into perspective how much the average person depends on it, and how plugged in we all are these days. It’s official: we’re living in a digital world where even our jobs require us to use technology constantly. My posting on RozieLand requires it too! In many ways, technology makes life easier, but there’s no denying how peaceful stepping natural life can be. Stepping away from the screens, going on a hike, walking a nature trail or enjoying a meaningful conversation over a bonfire with good people is were real life begins! Organic interaction is where it’s at!
However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that technology itself isn’t the problem. What matters is how we utilize it. If we aren’t careful, it can consume our time, our thoughts and even our relationships. God calls us to be present, to focus on what’s truly important. If we’re always distracted by screens, we might miss the beauty of His creation, the quiet moments where He speaks to us, or the special relationships He has placed in our lives.
The Bible reminds us in Psalm 46:10:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Sometimes, stepping away from machines allows us to truly be still–physically, mentally and spiritually, so that we can hear His voice; His direction.
Another verse that speaks to this is Ecclesiastes 3:1:
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
There is a time for work, a time for rest, and a time to unplug and just be. If we never take a break from our computers/phones/tablets/televisions/etc., we risk missing out on the deep, fulfilling moments that God wants us to experience, even if you’re all alone.
Even Jesus Himself demonstrated the importance of stepping away. In Mark 1:35, it says:
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
Jesus made time to withdraw from the noise of the world to connect with the Father, setting an example for us to follow. While I can’t remove technology from my life completely (well, I could and might at some point), I can strive to be more intentional about when and how I use it. Perhaps setting aside time each day to disconnect, to enjoy God’s creations, and to focus on Him (sharing my whole day with Him) will bring a new kind of peace into my daily routine.
What about you?
How long have you gone without technology?
Have you ever experienced a moment where stepping away from it brought you closer to God?
Thanks for visiting RozieLand!
I pray many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many many blessings over you,
