Enough to survive and live comfortably. 

Many might say this, but I mean it in the most basic and humble way. To survive and live comfortably means having a roof over my head, where I can feel safe, where stability and true peace exist. I don’t need extravagant luxuries, constant entertainment, or a crowd of people around me. Over time, I’ve come to realize that those things don’t matter if the people in your life don’t truly care about you.

Some of the people I once considered my closest friends–people I trusted with all of my heart–revealed to me, in the most painful ways, that they didn’t care whether I lived or died. The heartbreak of that realization taught me something invaluable: All I need is God. Everything else is temporary. Everything else can fade. But God remains.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” -Psalm 23:1

I have lived on little, uncertain where my next meal would come from or if I would have a roof over my head the following month. These experiences have shaped me, teaching me never to take anything for granted. I know what it’s like to struggle, to endure life-changing hardships alone, to go without the comfort of companionship for many years, and yet, through it all, God has proven to be my provider and my refuge.

The thing is…He never had to be that for me. God just is that for me, beyond my own understanding. And I’m so grateful. Even knowing that I don’t deserve His grace (or anything from Him for that matter), I’ll still accept and take His love, grace and mercy. I’ll take it without a second thought! Even when I fall short, even when I fail, He is still there.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” -Psalm 73:26

He has always been everything to me, and I acknowledge that He is my only hope.

So when I say I need enough money to ensure safety and stability, I mean just that—nothing more. I long for something simple and quiet, a stable home in a peaceful place, surrounded by kindness, with the ability to cook healthy meals and live without fear of losing the basics. I don’t ask for much, and maybe that’s seen as a flaw in a world that constantly chases after more. But I don’t believe it is.

The world offers so much to desire, yet I’ve only ever cared about what is true, kind, noble, and right.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” -Philippians 4:8

These are the things that bring true peace–not wealth, not status, not material possessions.

Even if I have nothing, no money, no security, no friends, no worldly wealth, God says I am still rich as long as I love Him and walk in His ways.

“I know your afflictions and your poverty; yet you are rich!” -Revelation 2:9

The world may see financial wealth as the measure of success, but in God’s eyes, the greatest treasure is a heart that remains steadfast in Him.

No matter what I face, no matter how little I may have, I will trust in The One who holds all things. Because after all is said and done, it is not the number in my bank account that will sustain me–but the riches of God’s love, grace, and eternal promises.
